Author Bio
I was born on a tiny island, off a bigger island, off another, even bigger island but when I finally looked at a world map, I realised, even the biggest island was small. My island might have been tiny but my world was anything but. When you’re raised on the isle of the ancient druids, you’re encouraged to dream.
There wasn’t much to do but explore, have adventures, go to the beach and read. For me, it was perfect. Books opened my mind and my heart. They took me everywhere I wanted to go, to all sorts of places, and times, to other worlds and other dimensions, to the wonder and heartbreak of other people’s lives and stories. And the best thing is they stayed with me. Magic was real and I discovered it everyday between the covers of a book. And now I’m writing a magic of my own.
In terms of a not too serious look at my day life, I was a perennial student who’d rather study, not work and dreamt of being a beach bum which was very handy given Anglesey’s beautiful beaches. I didn’t start work until I was twenty four and a half! My first employer asked me about my work experience and I had to confess I didn’t have any. I’m very grateful they took a chance on me and kickstarted my career in the leisure and tourism industries. I am a Professor of Tourism with a PhD in tourism, representation and power. I’ve spent most of my life researching gender and sexuality in tourism spaces but now I’ve taken a break from academia to focus on my first love and passion, writing fiction. I live in South Wales with my family and a pet menagerie.
